How It Works

A donor drops off their used vehicle at our partner shop hub — Effective Collision — or arranges a pickup. Financial donations are also accepted online and go directly toward repair and certification costs. A tax receipt is issued within 48 hours.

Our partner shop conducts a full mechanical inspection. We assess the vehicle's condition, estimate any repair costs, and make a decision: certify for donation, or sell for parts. Vehicles that cannot be safely certified are sold — proceeds fund repairs for others.

Minor repairs are performed pro bono by our shop partners. Major repairs are funded by financial donations. Once complete, the vehicle receives the Effective Care Certified stamp — meaning it's safe, reliable, and ready to be someone's primary transportation.

Applicants are scored across weighted factors — income, dependents, commute distance, housing stability, employment status, and special circumstances. The highest-scoring compatible applicant is matched to the vehicle. The process is transparent and consistent — no favouritism, no first-come-first-served.

The family receives the vehicle at no cost. Title is legally transferred. Where possible, we offer a free mechanical basics session so recipients understand how to care for their new vehicle. The donor receives a notification that their car has found a home.

Within 30 days of placement, the donor's private impact dashboard goes live. With the family's consent, donors receive anonymized updates — miles driven, milestones reached, how the car is being used. It's the feature that makes Effective Care different from every other car donation program.
